The Summer Solstice has just passed – the longest day of the year. Being as north as we are, there’s something to be said about our long summer evenings. Muskoka is alive with a flurry of activity, in communities and around the beautiful natural surroundings of our region. July will soon be here and along with it plenty of exciting events and recreational activities. If you’re new to the area, or a long-time resident, now’s the perfect time to get outside and experience Muskoka.
Summer really gets underway with the arrival of Canada Day on July 1st. Celebrations will be going on everywhere. Here are just a few ways to celebrate our Nation’s birthday:
- Downtown Huntsville – Live music along the streets, great food, shopping and of course, fireworks over Hunter’s Bay.
- Dominion Day Strawberry Social & Steam-Up Day – Head over to Heritage Place for the perfect family outing with a touch of history, fun activities and community!
- Port Sydney Canada Day Celebration – Spend the day at the beach with BBQ, live music, sandcastles and more – end the night with a firework spectacular.
July is full of community fun with the annual Dockfest Bathtub Derby. The day begins with the Bathtub Parade of race participants, followed by 3 heats of motorized bathtub races. Add in great local food, arts and crafts for everyone; this is one fun day along the Huntsville waterfront you won’t want to miss.
Many recreation enthusiasts are drawn to the rugged and beautiful challenges of the great outdoors around Muskoka. Check out the Limberlost Challenge, 14k/28k/56k races around The Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Preserve. And if that’s not enough of a challenge, Huntsville is playing host to the race to end all races, Ironman 70.3. Swim, bike and run your way around Fairy Lake, Lake of Bays and Huntsville.
The Annual Midnight Madness Festival also happening in Downtown Huntsville. The streets of Huntsville opened to pedestrians only and the shops open late, with an exciting festival that lasts all night long – well, until Midnight at least. While you shop enjoy live music and dancing, this year with a DJ, it really is a party in the streets.
Head over to Algonquin Provincial Park for family fun during Loggers Day at the Park. Live music will entertain as the whole family enjoy logging demonstrations, great food and fun activities.
